The Job Search: New Ball Game

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

I'm going to ask you to clear your mind. Everything you know or think you know, doesn't apply. A resume, that perfect suit and your charms may get you far in a small town. You're in a bit city now. Ultimately, it comes down to luck and opportunity. On the right day, at the right time, in the right field, there are jobs. Just like anywhere else, you have to search and search and search to find an a position that works for you. If you don't have an income,  you can't pay your bills, support yourself or even do something fun on the weekend. It's a necessity.

Let's start with the basics.

When looking for a job, you need to make sure that your "needs" and "wants" match up with theirs. Are you flexible? Do you want a set schedule? If you are on call 24/7, will that pose as a problem? Where are you willing to travel? What are your minimum pay requirements?

Trust me, the more honest your are with your "wants" and "needs", the less time you will waste. It get easier when you figure out what your parameters are. I can say from experience, traveling all around Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn, it can be a pain. The long commute from office to office, hanging around the "mole people" and walking IS the way of transportation.

When you have an idea of what your next position will be like. You can go to the next step: applying for position of your choice.
